Professor Patricia Clavin

Professor Patricia Clavin FBA is Professor of International History at the University of Oxford, and Fellow and Tutor at Jesus College. She has written on European diplomacy in the period between 1916 and 1950, the history of the Great Depression (1929-1939), and the history of international organizations, particularly the League of Nations. Her last book Securing the World Economy: The Reinvention of the League of Nations, 1929-1946 (OUP, 2013) was awarded the British Academy Medal. Her current research project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, explores how changing ideas about what comprises ‘security’ have shaped 20th–Century European history.
